Martin Atkins, author, CEO, drummer, and so many other things (read more) spends 75% of the year on the road speaking to helping bands and artists.  We try as best we can to make all these events FREE (and when they aren’t free, we usually have discount codes floating around).  Follow us on Twitter for up to the minute news.  We have events booked now worldwide.  Click on that handy Events button above.

Tour:Smart hosts seminars…

Tour Smart PLUS is a unique three day immersion seminar in everything you need to know to become the rebel artistic entrepreneur you want to be.  Martin Atkins  will be your guide as you learn to write effective branding communication, engage your online community in tangible ways, use audio and visual tools to market effectively, design your graphic identity and even learn how to screen print your own merchandise or promo materials.  Along the way, you’ll meet and learn from industry professionals and entrepreneurs who have been there, done that, are still doing it and are teaching it! Click here to see upcoming dates.  Next Tour:Smart PLUS is Jan 29 - 31.

Tour:Smart consults…

We won’t give you a plan that we spend months writing for you.  Instead, we teach you how to do this stuff yourself.  If it were up to Martin, he’d do this part for free all day long, but he needs to pay attention to the business of his art.  Our consulting fees start as low as $50.  Check out that nifty consulting button at the top of this page for more info.

Great Info on Creating Street Team Missions

Posted in Uncategorized on December 16 2009

Whilst browsing through Music Think Tank, we came upon an article that struck our interest.  As many musicians know, fan bases are hard to spread, but nothing helps like a good street team. How can you manage one though?  A great blog post by Brian Hazard gave great insight on how his first attempt to set up a mission on an online street team manager went.

His blog gave firsthand account of what he thought of the process, and then followed up with a step by step process complete with tips on how to successfully set up a great mission for your team.

“Whenever a fan subscribes to your mailing list, they’re given the option to join your street team. You create missions to direct your team’s promotional efforts on your behalf, and they compete against each other for rewards of your choosing. [These websites] manage the whole thing automatically by measuring plays, widget clicks, banner impressions, and mailing list signups”

Martin Atkins released a new video from on the road this winter during his Tour: Smart tour.  Viewers will get firsthand view of what a winter highway is like, and how “Its not how good of a driver YOU are, its the idiots in front and behind you!”  For anyone driving this winter, especially touring bands, be sure to give plenty of space to your fellow travelers, to prevent collisions and sliding.

OK Go’s Videos Are Now a No Go

Recording artists OK Go will no longer be able to have their videos (including the viral smash hit Here It Goes Again) embedded on fan’s websites, as their label EMI has decided that “[EMI]  had made the decision because under their deal with YouTube they do not gain royalty payments from plays of the band’s videos that are embedded on other sites.” The band apologizes to their fans, stating that they are opposed to the labels decision.

The question “What does a band gain from being signed to a major label?” remains open.
